The breakdown
In this post, I just want to give a simple guide to make sure you can buy the right adapter every time, following up on my previous post. Things can get super confusing, and I want to go ahead and make it as easy as possible for anyone who needs an adapter. The first time, I ordered the wrong one twice before I got it right, and it was just a lot of trouble and a waste of money. I also want to suggest this company, Fotasy. They sell great products for a very affordable price.
To really understand why this can be tricky, you have to understand that every new camera brand has two different basic attachments, one being the camera with the mirror(DSLR) and the other being your mirrorless camera. For example, there is Canon EF for DSLRs, Canon EFM for mirrorless, and so on with other brands. Knowing if your camera is DSLR or mirrorless is a great first step.
Canon to FD lenses – (old Canon lenses)
EF to FD adapter – fits Canon DSLR 6D, 5D, Mark IV, III, II, 1Ds, 1D, 7D II, 7D, 90D, 80D, 77D, 70D, 60D, 50D, 1300D, 1200D, 1100D, 760D, 750D – If you have a DSLR canon camera this is probably one of the most common adapters you can buy and it is the one I have used the most – link here
EFM to FD adapter – fits Canon EF M Mount Mirrorless Cameras EOS M, M1, M2, M3, M5, M6, M6 Mark II, M10, M50, M100, M200 – So basically this is going to fit most of your mirrorless Canon cameras – link here
Nikon to FD lenses
Here, it is basically the same idea, so I will explain it more simply. You just have to watch for DSLR vs mirrorless because those attachments are different no matter what brand you choose.
